and that gratitude is happiness doubled by wonder.
~ Gilbert Keith Chesterton
While many of us plan for the upcoming celebrations of New Years Eve and the parties and fun and others reflect on the year gone by, I thought maybe it is a time to pay some attention to being thankful and how it can add so much to our life and lives.
I used to write every Thursday a piece on Giving Thanks on Thursday. I felt that many people find Thursday a day just in between Wednesday 'Over the Hump Day' and Friday's 'Thank God its Friday' . So I picked this day, Thursday to focus on giving thanks. So its only fitting that we do that today with less than 72 hours in 2011. The year is almost over!
So what are you thankful for in 2011? Could you make a list with lets say....20 things? I bet you could if you prayed on it, meditated on it. We all have so many things to be thankful for.
Being Thankful can add years to our life. It can enhance our emotional being, it can improve our stress levels.
We all have as I have said before 86,400 seconds in each day. Each of us has the same number of seconds. We spend so many sleeping or trying to sleep for some. We spend so many on our maintenance and daily functions of waking up, getting ready for work, driving to and from work, taking a shower or bath, getting ready for bed etc etc. We all spend time doing these things. We need to take a 1,000 or so seconds through the day to be thankful or would you rather choose a less powerful emotion to focus on?
Its your choice. We indeed choose. One or the other. Being thankful or being stressed on what we don't have.
If a smile can change a persons state of happiness.
If a moment of laughter can help the body breathe better and the mind think better.
Then what could being thankful add to our life? Hmmm? Years of life.
Being Thankful can enhance your families harmony.
Don't let daily problems over take the gratefulness of the family unit.
Don't let inconveniences dominate the conversation or energy within the home.
Life is more than problems or inconveniences.
Life is about facing a problem or inconvenience and dealing with it. Getting over it and shaking it off is the way to deal with these nuances.
So what are you thankful for in 2011?
What will you place in gratitude for 2012?
Two questions to focus on today. Each day for that matter we should and must focus on what we can be grateful for. Even a challenge in life we can give thanks for.
For without a challenge how would we grow and improve?
Enjoy the next 86,400 seconds today and spend some time on 'Being Thankful'.
The new affirmation for the week fits nicely here:
I am full of love. I am a creation made to contribute and share that which I am full of. I choose to share love. I choose to share a kind word. I choose to share a simple sincere smile today. Tomorrow I will do the same. I am a perfect creation. I have the power within to make a difference. I choose to do make a difference today.
This week 67 words to inspire and to affirm each day. Say these words of magic a few times and allow them to flow into your mind and subconscious.
Watch the power of these words. The power of I choose. The power of now and today.
Use these words to make your day and the day of others a bit better.
Smiles as always sent your way. Today and always. : )

Lord, thank you for today and all its majesty and beauty.
Thanks for the gift of our free will may we all choose wisely.
Thank you for the gift of family, of love, of understanding.
Bless our families, our friends, those in need of hope and faith may be in some way help to inspire their lives.
May I choose with wisdom and discernement and in your will and instruction.
May I share a smile, a sincere smile and perhaps a kind word or deed.
Show appreciation more.
Thanks for the gift of love may I understand that everything was designed with love and only man and his wrong intentions created hate.
To share to be that beacon of light.
